ARGUS Data Insights is a Swiss media monitoring service based in Zurich that was called ARGUS der Presse until 2017 and, by its own account, has been active in media monitoring since 1896. It evaluates print, online, radio, TV, podcasts and social media and delivers editorially prepared press reviews and media analyses. It suits communications teams focused on Switzerland or on international monitoring; Austrian media are only documented through the DACH offer. ARGUS does not publish prices, and the flat-rate plans are available at a fixed price on request (as of October 2026).
What is ARGUS Data Insights, formerly ARGUS der Presse?
ARGUS Data Insights is a media intelligence provider for media monitoring, press reviews and media analyses. According to the legal notice, the vendor is ARGUS DATA INSIGHTS Schweiz AG, based in Zurich. According to the company profile, the company was founded in Geneva in 1896 as ARGUS der Presse AG, and since April 2017 it has traded as ARGUS DATA INSIGHTS Schweiz AG. The trade publication m&k reported on the name change at the time.
The website now presents ARGUS as a media intelligence provider with media monitoring, media analysis and monitoring of reputation in AI models. Both names therefore refer to the same company. If you search for “ARGUS der Presse”, you now land on argusdatainsights.ch, where ARGUS no longer uses the old name.
The work happens on the ARGUSintelligence platform. Press reviews and results arrive by email or via the ARGUSspot app, which according to the product page is available for Microsoft Teams, mobile and desktop.
Under our methodology, we rate ARGUS only in the monitoring pillar.
What can ARGUS Data Insights do?
According to the product page, ARGUS Data Insights monitors over 80,000 print media, over 5,000 radio and TV stations, over 120,000 websites and over 300 million social media sources.
| Area | What the sources document |
|---|---|
| over 80,000 print media | |
| Online | over 120,000 websites, news stream with over 2.5 million articles a day |
| Radio, TV, podcasts | over 5,000 stations, over 5,000 podcasts, radio and TV programmes in the DACH region |
| Social media | Facebook, X, YouTube, Instagram, WordPress, Tumblr; social listening with a Talkwalker dashboard, among others |
| AI models | AI Brand Intelligence, bookable separately |
According to the website, ARGUS enriches articles with tonality and language detection, summarises them with AI, translates and categorises them. An alert function reports new content in real time. Media analyses with reports, dashboards and comparison with competitors are partly created by analysts, and the social media page mentions influencer analyses. AI Brand Intelligence monitors reputation in AI models in German, English, French and Italian; ARGUS does not say which models.
What sets ARGUS apart as a media monitoring service?
ARGUS Data Insights differs from social listening software in its editorial press reviews, large print coverage in Switzerland and flat-rate plans. The licensing question rests with the customer.
- Press review: According to the product page, press reviews are created in an editor with distribution lists and send times and go out via ARGUSspot or email. AI summaries and translations complement the selection.
- Human selection: According to the page on editorially prepared press reviews, editors summarise the most relevant reports and arrange them by topic, delivered in the language you want.
- Licence: According to the ARGUSavenue terms, copyrights in the content do not pass to you, and ARGUS itself holds no rights of further use. You obtain those from the publishers. Delivered articles are intended for your own use only; publication or passing them on to outsiders is prohibited. Licensing information, for instance on ProLitteris, is missing from the website.
- Print DACH: For Switzerland, ARGUSflat Schweiz lists over 3,500 national print media, 45 radio and 25 TV stations and 4,000 online media. ARGUSflat DACH comprises around 12,000 print media; ARGUS does not say how many of them come from Austria.
Who is ARGUS Data Insights for, and who is it not for?
ARGUS Data Insights suits companies and organisations focused on Switzerland who need broad print and broadcast coverage and want press reviews summarised editorially. With flat-rate plans for Europe and the world and individual monitoring in over 180 countries, ARGUS also suits internationally active communications departments. Teams who work in Microsoft Teams receive the results there via ARGUSspot. The real-time alerts help teams who need to react quickly to critical coverage.
ARGUS is less suitable if you mainly need Austrian media, because their number is not documented. The same applies if you are looking for a press review with the licence included. In that case it is worth comparing on the page about media monitoring.
How much does ARGUS Data Insights cost?
ARGUS Data Insights does not publish prices (as of October 2026). According to the website, the ARGUSflat flat-rate plans for Switzerland, DACH, Europe and the world as well as ARGUSinsights Basic are available at a fixed price, and you find out the amounts on request. According to the terms, ARGUS bills in CHF, net plus VAT. When you enquire, name the countries, media types and the press review you want specifically, because the flat-rate plans are cut by region.
According to the terms, contracts run indefinitely, and you can cancel with 3 months’ notice to the end of the billing period. The website mentions no trial or free plan; only “request a demo” is documented. The plans are listed in the pricing table.
Data protection and DACH: servers, DPA, language
According to the privacy policy, ARGUS stores the ARGUSintelligence database including login in the Azure region Switzerland North. Translations run via DeepL in Germany, AI functions via Azure OpenAI in Switzerland or the EU and, where technically necessary, in the USA. The policy does not rule out transfers to third countries.
We did not find a DPA for media monitoring customers; the privacy policy mentions processing on behalf only for sending press releases. ARGUS names no certification of its own, only ISO 27001 at the IT providers involved. Missing evidence does not mean nothing exists. Request the DPA and certificates before signing.
A German interface and support in German are not explicitly documented; the website is available in German.
Our assessment
Under our methodology, ARGUS Data Insights is a broadly positioned media monitoring service with a long history and a clear focus on Switzerland. Well documented are the source base, editorially summarised press reviews, real-time alerts and a data location in Switzerland for the platform. With AI Brand Intelligence, ARGUS monitors reputation in AI models as an add-on module.
Against this stand missing prices, a DPA we could not find and the licensing question: according to the terms, you have to clarify rights of further use yourself, which brings effort and costs. Austria is only documented through DACH packages. Add the notice period of 3 months to the end of the billing period, which you need to plan for if you switch.
Our position: for Swiss communications teams and internationally active companies, ARGUS belongs on the shortlist. For Austria and a press review with the licence included, look at providers that document both.
