IN SHORT

Later is a social media tool for content planning, automatic publishing, link in bio, analytics and an inbox, with a visual Instagram planner. For teams in DACH, the German desktop interface counts as a plus, while the USA as data location, English support and missing support for X count as minuses. According to the pricing page, Later starts at 18.75 USD per month when paid annually (as of October 2026). According to the help centre there is also a free plan, which the pricing page does not advertise.

If you search for “Later social media”, you almost always mean Later Social, the scheduling tool from the Canadian vendor Later. This fact check relies only on publicly documented information from Later’s pricing page, privacy notice and help centre, retrieved on 13 October 2026. There is no hands-on test. Whatever no source documents, we mark as open, and the score table below shows every check point. We calculate the score under our methodology from these facts alone.

What is Later?

Later is a social media management tool that you use to schedule and analyse posts for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube Shorts and Threads. Later itself calls the product “Later Social”. Influencer and affiliate offers such as Mavrck and Mavely run as separate products and are not part of this fact check.

According to the terms and the LEI register, the vendor is Victory Square Media Inc., based in Vancouver, Canada. The privacy notice, by contrast, names Mavrck LLC d.b.a. Later in Boston as the controller. Later gives no founding year on the retrievable pages.

Billing is in social sets. According to the pricing page, a social set bundles up to 8 profiles; Starter includes 1 social set, Growth 2 and Scale 6.

What can Later do?

According to the pricing page and help centre, Later covers planning, link in bio, analytics, an inbox and, in the top plan, simple brand monitoring. Many functions depend on the plan:

AreaAvailable according to LaterFrom which plan
PlanningCalendar, Quick Schedule via fixed time slots, bulk upload of mediaall plans
AIAI Caption Writer with AI creditsfrom Starter
TeamApproval workflow, calendar sharing, commentsfrom Growth
InboxComments from Instagram, Facebook, TikTok; DMs from Instagram and Facebookfrom Growth, beta
AnalyticsHistory from 3 months to 2 yearsdepending on plan
CompetitorsBenchmarking up to 20 competitors, Instagram onlyScale only
ListeningBrand mentions (Instagram, TikTok) and sentimentScale only

According to the help centre, Quick Schedule creates recurring time slots for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and LinkedIn into which you slot the week’s posts. Later does not document a CSV import. According to the help centre, the social inbox only works on desktop, and you can only reply to DMs within 7 days. The mobile apps for iOS and Android come without analytics and without conversations. As integrations, the help centre names Canva, Dropbox and Google Drive.

Later has no built-in analytics for YouTube Shorts and Snapchat. Later evaluates sentiment for Instagram, TikTok and Facebook pages over 90 days, and scheduled reports by email are available in Custom Analytics. Both are only in the Scale plan.

Who is Later for, and who is it not for?

Later suits creators, small brands and social media teams who mainly post to Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest and want to plan visually. According to the pricing page, a social set covers 8 profiles; in the entry plan Starter you thus manage up to 8 profiles as 1 user.

Later is less suitable for you if

  • you want to post to X, Bluesky or your Google Business Profile,
  • you schedule long YouTube videos,
  • your team should answer LinkedIn or Threads comments in the tool,
  • you need real social listening beyond Instagram and TikTok,
  • you need support in German.

According to the help centre, Later discontinued support for X on 28 August 2025. Relevant for larger organisations: according to the help centre, single sign-on is not included in any of the Free, Starter, Growth and Scale plans.

How much does Later cost?

According to the pricing page, Later costs from 18.75 USD per month when paid annually, plus taxes (as of October 2026); the Enterprise plan is on request. So Later prices are public, but only for annual payment, which Later advertises with “3 months free” or 25 % off. What you pay with monthly payment is not on the page.

According to the pricing page, the Starter plan includes 30 posts per profile, 5 AI credits and 3 months of analytics history. There is a 14-day trial for all paid plans. According to the help centre there is also a free plan, which is not advertised on the pricing page: 12 posts per profile and month, 1 user, 1 social set and link in bio, and the calendar only reaches two weeks forward and back. Additional users, social sets and AI credits are available as add-ons from Growth. All plans are in the pricing table further down.

Data protection and DACH: where is the data stored, is Later available in German?

According to the privacy notice, Later stores personal data in the USA and bases transfers from the EU on standard contractual clauses. Whether Later provides a data processing agreement (DPA) is not documented on the retrievable pages. The same applies to certifications such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001; the trust page could not be reached when retrieved. Not documented does not mean neither exists. The privacy notice names no storage location in the EU. If your data must be stored in the EU, clarify this directly with Later before buying.

The picture on language is mixed. According to the help centre, the desktop app is available in English, Spanish, French and German, and the mobile apps only in English. The primary and official support language is English. If your team works without English, you will manage on desktop, but not with support or on a smartphone.

Our assessment

Based on the documented facts, Later is a solid visual planner for Instagram and TikTok and a weak choice for teams who need many networks or monitoring. The strengths: German desktop interface, link in bio in all plans, an affordable entry point with 8 profiles and a free plan.

The limits are clear. X, Bluesky and Google Business Profile are missing, the inbox is in beta and limited to three networks, and listening and benchmarking are only in the most expensive standard plan and only for a few networks. If data protection has a say in your company, ask about the DPA and certifications before buying, because neither is publicly documented. For creators and small brands with an Instagram focus, on the other hand, the way in via the free plan and trial is easy. Agencies who look after clients on X or in Google Business Profile need a different tool.

How the score is calculated
