An employee advocacy tool helps you make employees visible as a voice of your company on social media, usually on LinkedIn. Above you see the social media management tools with a documented advocacy feature, sorted by our fact-based score. Below you learn the two working models, what counts for data protection on personal profiles and where extra costs lurk. This covers advocacy features in management tools; pure specialist vendors without a checked fact sheet are missing. Our verdict up front: settle the model first, then the price, because the two are closely linked. All details as of 13 October 2026.

What are employee advocacy and corporate influencers?

Employee advocacy means that employees voluntarily share their employer’s content through their own social media profiles and so increase the brand’s reach and credibility. Corporate influencers are employees who do this permanently and in their own voice: they write their own posts, show their area of expertise and stand for the company as a person.

The difference lies in depth. With employee advocacy, someone shares a finished post in two clicks. A corporate influencer programme, by contrast, builds individual people into a public face over months, often with training, a content calendar and support from the social media team.

Both need voluntary participation. A personal profile belongs to the person, even if they talk about their job there. That shapes the choice of tool more than any feature list. If you cannot get anyone to share, even the best app wins you nothing. So before you buy, settle who wants to take part, on which platform and how much time people have for it.

Which two models do employee advocacy tools follow?

Employee advocacy tools follow one of two models: either employees share approved company content themselves through an app or a news feed, or a central team plans and looks after the personal profiles in the tool. The first scales to many participants; the second suits a small corporate influencer programme with a few people.

The app model fits when many employees are meant to share now and then. Facelift, Lomavis, SocialHub and Sprinklr describe this on their product pages. The communications department provides posts; employees pick and share. Above all, check the app: does it run on all company phones, and how many clicks does a shared post take?

The central model fits when a few people regularly publish their own posts. Swat.io states that personal LinkedIn profiles are planned and managed there and that comments on their posts can be answered in the tool. How to prepare LinkedIn posts is covered in the guide Schedule LinkedIn posts.

What applies to data protection and voluntary participation?

With employee advocacy, a tool processes data from personal profiles, so participation, access rights and data location should be settled before the start. The deeper the tool reaches into a private profile, the more this matters.

In the app model, the person shares themselves and decides on every single post. Still ask the vendor which data the app collects through the connected account and who in the company sees the reports. In the central model, the team gets access to a personal profile. Swat.io names a clear boundary here: according to the vendor, direct messages to personal profiles stay in LinkedIn and do not appear in the tool. Comments under the posts, on the other hand, can be answered in the tool. Agree in the team who may reply there on a person’s behalf and whether they see every reply beforehand.

Make participation voluntary, in writing and revocable at any time, and set out what happens to profile connections when someone leaves. Have consent, data processing and, where relevant, the works agreement checked by your data protection adviser. This overview is no substitute for legal advice.

Where are the price and add-on traps?

At most vendors, employee advocacy software is an add-on, a separate product or part of the Enterprise plan, and a public price is often missing. So always calculate with the package you really have to book for advocacy.

ToolWhat costs extra or comes laterPrice according to the vendor
Vista Socialadd-onfree with 3 advocates, otherwise 199 USD a month for 25 employees
Lomavisseparate product Sharefrom 79 EUR a month billed annually, 99 EUR monthly (1 user, 100 subscribers)
SocialHubadd-on from 10 brand ambassadorson request
Sprout Socialadd-on from the Standard planon request
Agorapulseadd-onon request
Hootsuite, AdhookEnterprise plan onlyon request

Watch the billing unit. Vista Social charges per employee, Lomavis Share per user and subscriber, and SocialHub sets a minimum number of brand ambassadors. For Swat.io, our facts show no separate advocacy price; ask there how personal profiles count towards your quota.

You can test before buying: SocialHub names a two-month free trial for employee advocacy, Swat.io 21 days with all features and add-ons. Full prices are in the entries above and under social media management tools compared.

How does a tool get onto this list?

This list includes every tool in our facts for which the vendor documents an advocacy or corporate influencer feature, also as an add-on or only in the Enterprise plan. It is sorted by the management score from our methodology, in which features available only as an add-on or in the Enterprise plan count half. The advocacy feature itself is not a separate criterion there; it only decides inclusion. The order therefore reflects social media management as a whole, with publishing, team features, analytics and data protection. The tool finder shows which tool suits your team.

Frequently asked questions

What is an employee advocacy tool?

An employee advocacy tool is software that companies use to distribute content to employees so that they share it through their own social media profiles. There is usually an app or a news feed with approved posts and a report on reach. In social media management tools, the feature is often an add-on.

What is the difference between employee advocacy and corporate influencers?

Employee advocacy means many employees sharing company content; corporate influencers permanently publish their own posts in a personal voice. Advocacy relies on volume and finished content, a corporate influencer programme on a few people who are built up over time. Accordingly, the tools differ between the app model and central profile management.

How does an employee advocacy tool work?

An employee advocacy tool works in one of two models: employees share approved content themselves through an app or news feed, or a central team manages their personal profiles in the tool. According to the vendors, Facelift, Lomavis, SocialHub and Sprinklr describe the app model. Swat.io names central management of personal LinkedIn profiles. The first scales to many people, the second suits a few.

Which employee advocacy tool is the best?

The best employee advocacy tool depends on whether many employees are meant to share or a few corporate influencers are meant to write their own posts. After that, price, data location and platforms count. Our order comes from a score that counts only documented checkpoints; criteria and weights are on the methodology page.

How much does an employee advocacy tool cost?

Among vendors with published prices, an employee advocacy tool costs from 79 EUR a month. According to its pricing page, Lomavis Share starts at 79 EUR a month billed annually, and Vista Social charges 199 USD a month for 25 employees. Agorapulse, Hootsuite, SocialHub and Sprout Social give prices only on request (as of 13 October 2026).

Are there free employee advocacy tools?

Free employee advocacy tools exist only with tight limits. According to its pricing page, Vista Social provides the advocacy add-on free for 3 advocates; above that, it costs 199 USD a month for 25 employees. SocialHub names a free two-month trial. For a real programme, you usually need a paid licence.

Can I test employee advocacy tools before buying?

Yes, some vendors name a trial period, but the conditions differ. According to the vendor, SocialHub gives a two-month free trial for employee advocacy, Swat.io 21 days with all features and add-ons. Agorapulse and Sprout Social name a 30-day trial. If advocacy is an add-on there, ask beforehand whether it is unlocked during the trial.

Which networks do employee advocacy tools support?

Employee advocacy tools mostly focus on LinkedIn; some connect further networks. According to the vendor, Adhook lets employees connect personal Facebook, LinkedIn and X accounts. SocialHub names advocacy for corporate influencers on LinkedIn, Swat.io the management of personal LinkedIn profiles. Before you buy, check whether your employees' networks are supported.

Are there employee advocacy tools with their own app?

Yes, several vendors have their own app through which employees share approved content. According to the vendor, Facelift Amplify is available for iOS and Android, and Sprinklr names an advocacy app for Android and iPhone with single sign-on and several languages. Check whether the app runs on all company phones and how many clicks a shared post takes.

Where do employee advocacy tools store data?

According to the vendors, Agorapulse, Facelift, Lomavis, SocialHub and Swat.io document an EU data location. Hootsuite, Sprout Social and Vista Social store data in the USA; Sprinklr sets the region in the contract and uses the USA if none is stated. Adhook names no location. Because data from personal profiles is processed, have your data protection adviser check the setup; this is not legal advice.

Does the company see employees' direct messages?

Whether the company sees direct messages depends on the tool and on the permissions granted. Swat.io states that direct messages to personal LinkedIn profiles stay in LinkedIn and do not appear in the tool. Before the start, ask every vendor which data from connected personal accounts is processed.
